KIERAN O`CONNELL & BAND

Kieran has been playing for the past number of years in the acclaimed folk group The Fiddle Case, but needed an outlet for his songs that didn’t quite fit that mold. His journey to this point has been unpredictable and wild. He grew up steeped in folk music and to date Kieran has worked with different acts and musicians such as Luka Bloom and Ultan Conlon and has many notable support slots for acts such as Susan O’Neill, Stockton’s Wing and Mary Black. More recently, Kieran opened for the mighty Richard Hawley for two sold out shows at The Olympia Theatre in Dublin.

Kieran began his career playing the bars and venues of Melbourne before returning to Ireland as a singer with a bunch of original songs. As a member of The Fiddle Case, he has recorded and gigged all over the world. The acoustic folk writing in his DNA anchors Kieran’s sound and draws inspiration from the synth-trad experimentation of The Bothy Band and early Bill Whelan productions, as well as the acoustic/synth couplings found on 80’s era Springsteen and Paul Brady. Like many of us in 2020 Kieran found himself in a bubble (literally and figuratively), and so, hidden away in a little shed beside a smokey old stove he dived in; writing, jamming, recording.... searching for and eventually refining a new sound; the charlatans and troubadours of the parlours and lounges of west Clare armed with amplifiers and synthesisers.

From this session came two singles: ‘Songbird’, and ‘Down On The Quays’, with both songs garnering positive reviews and airplay on national radio. Playing live is the ultimate buzz for Kieran, and along with his resident gigs he has played some very special shows along the way. Including a sell-out show at the Royal Spa in Lisdoonvarna. Currently, Kieran is putting the finishing touches on his upcoming release. The Higher Homes EP. This will feature three new tracks alongside the previously released singles.
